Team 9 Black Bears scientific name is "Ursus Americanus" American black bears are one of the most dangerous animals. Black bears are very aggressive but try to avoid humans at any cost. Black bears are omnivores which means they eat both meat and fruit and grass. They have only ten percent of meat in their diet and the other 90 percent they eat vegetables but over the winter they lose 20 percent of their fat. In every diffrent season the black bear weighs more than it does last year. What is weird about the black bear is that it's front feet are diffrent from its back feet because the black bear uses its front feet more than it does it's back feet. What is very interesting about the black bears feet is that all their claws are all same size from front to back. Black bears are very dexterous which means that they are very smart. Black bears are so smart that they can unscrew jars and unlock door latches. What is very interesting about the black bears feet is that all their claws are all almost the same size but the black bears front claws are just a little bigger and more curved than the back claws.
Team 6 striped skunk scientifice name ( Mephitis mephitis )
The striped skunks like to live in areas that are open or the wood, grasslands but they never live more than two miles away from the water. The striped skunk isonly found in north America and its range is from central Canada to northern Mexico. The striped skunk eats both meat and plants. The skunk also eats weeds, roots, bird eggs, bugs, acorns, rats, moles, stink bugs, birds, bats, beans, pumkins, oranges, lizards, and snakes. The skunks depend on their shelter, food, water, space, and of course air. The characteristic of the striped skunk is that they are about as big as a house cat they have triangular heads with little ears. The legs of a striped skunk are short with webbed toes and their claws are used for digging and looking for food. Even though the skunk has short legs it can still protect it's self from predators like the Great horned owl. What the skunk does is it tries to run away from the predator and if that does not work the skunk will rise it's butt in the air then it will spayr this strong-smelling fluid. The weather that the skunklives in is snowy
Team 3
The Strix Occidentalis Caurina, also known as the Northern Spotted Owl, is a threatened species. They are dark brown, their heads have white spots, and their wings and chest are a light brown with white spots. The owls are 16-19 inches long. The wings are 40 inches long. They weigh approximately 1.3 pounds. They eat wood rats, flying squirrels, and other little animals similar to those. They help keep the animals in the population right now. Hawks and Barred Owl attack their young and sometimes eat them, so they also provide some food for some other predators. Like other owls, they swallow their food whole and then regurgitate pellets, balls of hair and bones they could not digest. They do not build nests, they use trees for their young and they stay with their mates until one dies. The owls are very protective of their territory, but not of their young. If their tree is being attacked they do not try to protect it, they just stay on a nearby branch and watch it be destroyed. The population is approximately 1,100 owls right now, and a little more than half live in Oregon. The owls are good for the environment because there would be too many wood rats and flying squirrels and it would make everything different if there were no owls. They would be difficult to deal with and it would be hard on the environment itself for having too much of the same. The little animals that the owls eat is in the amount of species they are because of being eaten. Truthfully every thing would be different if there were no owls to keep them in that amount. The adult owls have very little predators, like the Great Horned Owl and the Golden Eagle, but their biggest threat are humans. Two very cool facts about the Northern Spotted Owl are that: one, they live longer when they are captured, and two, they are one of the very few owls that have dark eyes, most owls have yellow to red-orange eyes. .
